Comedy…..what do I know about comedy?

Those who have heard me try to tell a joke will say nothing. Those who have seen me play five-a-sides will say a hell of a lot. Those of you who have just stumbled upon this page may be saying “shut up man and get to the point.”

Okay, the trick of comedy is all about the……………

timing.

Eventually this page will host some reviews and postings on comedy but for now, here is a brief list of some of the comedians who make me laugh.

Harry Hill: Completely bizarre and random but equally unbelievably mainstream. I recently caught a daytime kids show he was doing and the set up was the exact same as his old Channel 4 series and it seemed just as funny. Ah well, you’ve got have a system and its good to prove you don’t have to swear to be funny.

Peter Cook Like Harry Hill, Peter Cook never had to swear to be funny. He was funny and clever enough without swearing. When Derek and Clive got going though, fucking hilarious. Can’t say I agree with their thoughts on Margaret Thatcher though. A man who proved that being intellectual was no barrier to being funny.

Reeves and Mortimer: For my generation, legends. From primary school when Big Night Out was a highlight of the week, to Secondary school where The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer was perhaps the funniest thing I had ever seen right up to the present day where even Catterick raises a smile, if only for Vics character going “I know…” A massive influence on what I perceive to be funny.

The Mighty Boosh: Vic and Bob for the iPod generation….or a maverick jazz genius and an electro poof? Either way, great one-liners, great songs and even better hair. For Paul “hes just punched some filly in the face”, for everyone else “I’m old Gregg.”

Chris Morris: Solid full-back, one great season….oh wait, the other guy? The Day Today, BrassEye, Jam and Nathan Barley. Cake, Noel Edmonds killing Clive Anderson, HOECS games, Nonce sense, baltimora….and much much more. Good lad.

The Reilly sense of humour: This last one doesn’t get mentioned for my benefit but for my sister in law Joanne who truly adores the comical wit and stylings of the Reilly gentlemen.
