Hot Chip - Boy From School - Single
Just in time to steal the show this summer, Hot Chip release 'Boy From School', the second single from forthcoming album 'The Warning.' A more restrained effort than 'Over and Over', there is a classic disco feel to the backline riff as it repeats and bubbles along. Its not a floor filler but there is a touch of the Giorgio Moroder as the track centres around a very strong hook and everything else seems to play around that bouncing melody.
The vocals are crooned and flow well from start to end, breathing life into the story of looking back at life and on the chances it brings. There will be more upbeat moments on the album but as a bittersweet pop track, it pushes all the right buttons
The fact that Hot Chip are so adored by the fawning electro crowd probably comes as a shock to the band; such is their down to earth quality and individual style. For once, the hipsters have looked beyond the fashion and Aviator shades and gotten hold of a band that makes good, danceable music and it's only a matter of time before a mainstream crossover happens.
With a remix from one of electro’s men of the moment Erol Alkan (still basking in the glory of an outstanding remix of Franz Ferdinand’s 'Do You Want To?'), 'Boy From School' easily makes the grade and will hopefully introduce many new fans to one of the bands of the year.
