Astrid Williamson - “Day of The Lone Wolf” album - One Little Indian Records
Having graduated from the RSAMD in the 1990s, Astrid Williamson has received much critical acclaim yet seemingly little public acceptance in the past decade or so. “Day of The Lone Wolf” attempts to rectify this and stands as a far-reaching and emotional album.
With a classic singer songwriter approach to her style and music, Astrid Williamson throws in some fantastic modern lyrical references to text messages and internet exploring and manages to make it all sound as natural. Its as much about today as any cutting edge dance track yet retains its traditional heart on its sleeve.
The tempo varies from the maudlin, almost funeral march pace of “Siamese” to the perky swagger of “Superman 2” all matched by her consistent and strong vocals. With flirty and confident cooing sitting confidently with cracked and emotional deliveries, there is no doubt that the voice on display is quality, if sometimes the songs fail to live up to the comparison.
3/5
The vocals stand out from start to finish as Astrid Williamson traverses the emotions and range on her latest album.
