Decoration - Candidate / Job In London (Double A-Side single) - SL Records
IAn upbeat slice of old school indie pop is the fare that Decoration offers up on their double A-side release of “Candidate” and “Job in London”.
Theres nothing new here, in fact, the key influences are from twenty years ago but for all of its familiarity, there is still a vibrancy about the songs that place them in the modern age.
“Candidate” is a breezy stomp along with the guitar fuzz and chime racing throughout and the vocals sounding gloriously unprofessional but tuneful as can be. Lyrically, its another muse on the vagrancies on love and the troubles it brings. Its cheery side keeps the listener on side and the references to the 1980s and electric dreams further reinforce the nostalgic glow of the song.
To balance this, “Job In London” peddles a slower approach but again, is firmly rooted in an earlier time with the almost spoken vocal delivery overshadowing the muted guitars until the instrumental break kicks in and wakes the track up.
With a full album of revisionism and classic indie-fare, Decoration are possibly old before their time but they seem as though they are enjoying themselves.
