Killa Kela - Elocution (album) - Split Kingdom / RCA Records

With the latest sound of the UK streets, Killa Kela has the beats and backing tracks of The Streets but his vocal delivery and tone lies in a much darker place. Sure, the female sang choruses would all fit snugly into the radio airplay bracket but the main body of the rapping spit out more rapping and paranoia that can be good for one person.

With Roots Manuva and Neneh Cherry popping up with some guest vocals,  with Manuva bringing his own run of good form to particularly liven up the vocal delivery but Cherry is woefully underused.
As a record, it strolls to the finish, with the only track of urgency and proper menace is “Jawbreaker” with a vigour and energy to live up to its title.

For those who don’t think Mike Skinner has enough edge or is real enough, Killa Kela will certainly step up to the plate but there isn’t enough commercial sparkle for Kela to take on the masses……yet.

3/5

Proper guest vocalists and the sound of the streets as Killa Kela snarls and snorts his way through Elocution.
