Water School - Break Up With Water School (album)

Hailing from Baltimore, Water School would find themselves right at home in Glasgow. In creating a sound that merges Big Stars pop sensibilities with the feel of modern Americana acts such as The Tyde or The Shins, “Break Up With Water School” is a glorious up-beat blast of sunshine that seems to enthral the Glasgow music scene in a big way.

Opener “Talkin’ ‘Bout Us” immediately grabs the listener with its melodies and chorus that keeps reaching up and beyond and sets the scene for the forthcoming summer.

With various warnings, dismissals and broken hearts couched in the euphoric delivery, the album delivers the classic melancholy tinges wrapped in a smiling manner that great pop can offer.

With hand claps and ringing guitar picks chasing many tracks along, the spirit is happy and free and only closer “To All Those Girls” overly plays on the down and slow side, as a fitting coda to an album filled with inventiveness and charm.

4/5

Fantastic and enjoyable swooning Americana-pop from Water School that will make you fall in love as opposed to want to break up.
