Devastations - Take You Home (Single) - Beggars Banquet
With a dark and menacing sound and lyrical tone, The Devasations make an offer to "Take You Home" and whether you accept is all down to your perceptions. The track doesnt mess about, after a brief intro the guitar picks out a line, the drums snap into life and suddenly the song is charging away and its all melancholic and edgy. The vocals almost strain to keep up with the pace and their almost pleading nature sounds rather desperate.
The B-Side is a cover of The Velvet Undergrounds "I Found A Reason." Its a fairly straight and true version, the vocals not quite matching the restrained power and passion of the original and the piano riff being more reminiscent of the BBC remake of "Perfect Day", as opposed to the searing original. The spoken part near the end doesnt work at all but their hearts are in the right place. Bless.
You might get a better offer when the lights go up.
