Basement Jaxx - Crazy Itch Radio (album)
In a bizarre modern version of The Who’s “Sell Out”, Basement Jaxx have peppered their “Crazy Itch Radio” with snippets and jingles to recreate the feeling of a radio station. Couple this to their Robbie Willaims support slots and its clear that Bobby Gillespie was spot on with his approximation of Basement Jaxx at last years Glastonbury.
Musically, its pretty much The Jaxx by numbers, no longer viewed as an innovative but still having their moments to sparkle. The carnival drum feel to ‘Hey U’ manages to impress and there are some punch the air moments, just not enough to make up for tracks like “Run 4 Cover” which are akin to a poor version of “Carnival De Paris” by Dario G.
Its always a shame to see a previously innovative act fade to such a level but there are still moments that are classic Basement Jaxx, just not enough.
